the first time...(one of a million..)

waving just like the queen, up the stairs....
preflight jitters nil...
the waiting game..

Yesterday was another "first" in a long line of firsts..my girl took her first ever flight unaccompanied. She took off for a mini break in lovely Mackay with one of my gorgeous best girlfriend's/big sister and her gorgeous family. It was very exciting and daunting at the same time. It was a very nerve wracking day for freckles going between excitment and a little fear. But once we where there it was all fine. She got on the plane no problems at all and made it too the other end safely. Me on the other hand, I held it together until the plane jetted off into the sunset and then I had tears. Tears because it is a big thing to put your heart on a plane and see it fly away..tears because she is growing up so fast..tears because I know in about 12 years I will hopefully be doing the same thing as she ventures out into the world with nothing but a passport, some money and a backpack for that right of passage trip of backpacking around the world. I dearly want my kids to grow up with a childhood full of adventures and experiences, not a house full of gadgets and "things". I love her so much and I am super proud to be her mum. She will be back on Sunday, I cannot wait.

I'm glad it went so well. We have part-time care of two boys (7 and 9) and are currently trying to convince their mother that she should allow them to fly to Melbourne (from Adelaide) unaccompanied to visit their Grandparents. You would think that we had suggested they juggle chainsaws! Nice to hear that you had such a positive experience.
